So You've Written a Book...
Will anyone but you ever see it? And how will you know if anyone besides your mother would think it was any good? If you've written and re-written, spell-checked, and read it aloud, it's time to take the next step. As the BOOK COACH, I offer three levels of writer services:
Send your manuscript to The BOOK COACH for a Critique. In a Critique, I read the entire work and evaluate its premise, structure, plot, character development, pacing, style, and marketability. Just as importantly, I can give you a fair, friendly and honest analysis of what it would take to bring the manuscript to a publishable state. If you're just starting out with an idea and have a draft, this is the place to begin. Critiques are priced at $100 for the first 50,000 words of MS + $30 for each additional 10,000 words. (Ex: a word count of 75,000 = $175)
Another alternative for your baby is Editing. Yes, this can be at the micro- (copy editing) or macro- (style and structure) levels, but both your money and my time are better spent, the cleaner your MS is. In contrast to a Critique, when I edit I offer both error-corrections and suggestions for improving the structure, style and flow. Editing begins at $100 per 10,000 words of MS. (Ex: a word count of 75,000 = $750) If your MS is pretty messy and will require careful line editing before I can even tackle the bigger stuff, I can point you to a copy editor or charge an additional $25/hr. MSS that have already been Critiqued by me will receive a credit of that amount toward Editing, up to $250.
And finally, for those who need that extra push to get them to the finish line, I offer Collaborative Writing. Meaning, you provide the idea and the draft and, if they are usable, I provide the revisions and styling. My name would not appear on your work, but this differs from Ghostwriting because I do not take the idea and produce the book entirely from scratch. (No time for that!) Depending on the state of your idea and draft, Collaborative Writing prices vary. We would begin with a "pilot project" of a chapter and go from there. Contact me and we'll talk.

Why Pick Me?
First off, I would suggest reading some of my writing to see if you even like my style. No need to buy the books--just download a sample from Amazon (or "Look Inside the Book"). You may also read either of my blogs (see "Blogs" tab).
I've studied English Literature at University of California at Berkeley and Stanford University, and taught English and Writing at Stanford University and Foothill College.
All my books are self-published, so I'm familiar with the process from start to finish. I have a critique group but largely do my own editing.
I've also done some professional editing for a deeply dull book on earthquake risk put out by Kluwer Academic Press.

How Do We Get Started?
Email me at CNDBookCoach@gmail.com. Include in your text the title, length (word count, not page length), and subject of your book, as well as which service you are interested in. Please paste in the body of the message the first page of the story itself. I look forward to learning about your work!
