Speaking at the 2025 Romance Writers of America Conference

For writers of romance and lovers of romance, the Romance Writers of America Conference takes place July 16-19 in Niagara Falls, Ontario, and I’ve been invited to speak at the Thursday evening session. President Jacki Renee asked me to speak about self-publishing, and since 95% of my work is indeed self-published, this will be no problem!

Because publishing is such an opaque industry, I’m choosing to share my numbers. Is it possible for a medium no-name, mostly self-published author to make money as a writer? What sort of money?

Of course, every writer’s journey is different, but I plan to talk about what Becca Syme calls the “four success factors,” only two of which are in our control. I’ll also talk from my own experience about the pros and cons of Kindle Unlimited, self-publishing, and traditional publishing.

I’ll post again after the conference, but I hope to meet other romance authors and see a bit of the Falls. My husband and I went years ago, on our way to Toronto, but it’s been over twenty years!
